Prayer in Sound

Friday 12th September, 2025 to Sunday 26th October, 2025

an image

Prayer in Sound is a sound installation by healing artist Jaha Browne, weaving together the voices of residents from Barking and Dagenham to explore the many ways prayer is experienced and expressed within a community. At its heart lies a universal question: what does prayer mean to us, individually and collectively?

Recorded voices blend with the healing tones of gongs and crystal bowls to form a meditative soundscape that invites deep listening. Neither podcast nor documentary, this experimental composition blurs the boundaries between storytelling, ritual, and reflection.

Through reverberation and spatial mixing, the voices are woven into acoustic , a portal for both personal contemplation and shared connection. At moments they echo and dissolve into traces that carry memory and imagination. As resonance swells, the voices rise into an incantation sound that transcends the everyday, guiding listeners into new spaces of presence and collective prayer.
